Child Support

Tupelo Attorney For Child Support Matters

Even when parents cannot agree on much during a divorce, they usually can agree that their children need to be taken care of and supported. In Mississippi, child support is determined by a statutory formula, but it is still important to have an experienced attorney on your side to make sure the numbers being used are accurate and that your child receives the full support he or she deserves.

Child Support Payments

Unless the court has a specific reason to deviate, such as a child's special needs or an extremely high income for one of the parents, child support is determined according to a formula laid out in state statutes. Child support continues until a child reaches the age of 21.

The formula is simple: The number of children due support corresponds with the percentage of adjusted gross income that should be awarded for support:

  • One child = 14 percent
  • Two children = 20 percent
  • Three children = 22 percent
  • Four children = 24 percent
  • Five or more children = 26 percent
